Let's say you have had this idea for a bag for a while now and you're ready to make a sample to see what it looks like in real life. The sample development process includes the steps necessary to get you to your final sample. It includes the tech pack document of getting your specs and details on paper and the sourcing service, where you choose and confirm the materials to make your sample. Once the tech pack is approved and the sourcing has been confirmed, then the sample is made. Whether you start with either the Online Course or the 1-hour Design Consultation with Laura, the final cost will always depend on the specific details of your bag. These steps will help you bring your vision to life and create a high-quality sample that meets your requirements.
So, the description of the above sample development process is what we at Clutch Made commonly refer to as Bundle #3, which again includes the tech pack development, material sourcing, and pattern/sample making. Before you ask for a quote, here are a few things you should have some answers and information on:
Reference sample images or sketches
Believe us when we tell you you don't have to be an artist or a master at drawing to show us what you want for your bag. Sketches and technical illustrations are helpful and to the point, but you should see the wonderful bags we developed just by looking at reference images. When you send us reference images, we can Frankenstein them together, so you can design the bag of your dreams.
Measurements
These are very important. The overall measurements of your bag will determine what can be carried in it - or you can go the other way around. Think of everything you want to have on you when you're wearing the bag. Is it an everyday work bag, a simple crossbody bag to carry the essentials or an evening bag? Then, think of a bag you love to carry or a bag you have seen at a boutique and use its measurements as a reference for your bag design. All we need is width, height, and depth. If your bag has a handle or strap, we will need the handle drop or strap drop too.
Materials and design details
This is when you think about the materials and functionality of your bag. You don’t need to be specific with the exact material you want. Whether you want a leather, nylon, or canvas bag, we will ship you the available material swatches once you reach the sourcing stage of the sample development. Think of the colors you would like for your sample’s main material and lining, and the finish of the hardware you want.
For details, you will be thinking about adding pockets, removable straps, closing details, like if the bag has feet or not… Details that make your bag unique and functional for the demographics you have in mind. You will also consider how you want to add your brand logo artwork to the bag. We can provide you with a logo stamp, woven labels, custom print materials, and even custom hardware to display your brand’s logo.
